peanuts
an old friend of mine firmly believes that airline peanuts are doused with a sedative solution, in order to make passengers calm and easier to manage. he says terrorists know about the peanuts, so if you're flying and see a passenger refusing to eat the peanuts, it's likely that they're a terrorist.

I heard you weren't allowed peanuts on planes in case someone was allergic.

i have no idea
i dislike flying and haven't set foot on a plane for 25 years

Apparently it's not illegal,
I just googled. Someone said they were. There have been calls to make them illegal but the law is on the side of the nuts.

However I get the impression it's typical for them to be served as standard on all American flights, not a custom I think we have in Europe, but I don't fly much myself so I couldn't say. The last time was about 10 years ago, Al Italia, they do nice cheese and salami sandwiches on their flights.

I fly a few times a year in Europe, and the peanuts stopped more or less completely in the late 90s. I don't know why, possibly allergy reasons, or the choking hazard. Now usually they serve savoury snacks, the most common I find are these little crackers that taste like mini cheddars.

I recently flew to Oz from London and back
With Air Malaysia and can confirm that they offered peanuts on all four flights. I declined them, not because I'm allergic to them or I'm a terrorist, but because I'm allergic to other nuts and don't like to run the risk with trace amounts of the bad stuff.

i'd only fly if i had no alternative
it really disorientates me

Conspiracy?
Bloody peanut lobbyists controlling the food we're fed on aeroplanes...

I haven't flown for over 10 years either, but if I do fly again, I'm NOT a terrorist
I'm just allergic to peanuts.
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 17:04, closed)
I think they used to serve them in Europe but don't any more.
I'm pretty sure that when I flew as a kid they used to serve peanuts on every flight but I've flown a few different airlines and routes as an adult and not been served peanuts. The nearest I've had are those fish-shaped salted little biscuits as KLM seem to like tp serve them.
I also misses out on trying Ostrich on one flight because I was starving and didn't want to risk nit liking it -- wirsh I had tried it now though as I've not been offered anything remotely interesting since.
Damn, now you have me thinking about the air stewardess with the sheer blouse whose nipple popped out of her bra on the flight to Malaga. Now, where did I put those tissues?
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 17:11, closed)
ostrich is yummy

It's on my list of things to eat.
Mind you my list contains pretty much every mammal and bird and a heck of a lot of other things.
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 17:48, closed)
kangaroo is also nice

(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 18:03, closed)
Yeah, I like a bit of 'roo.
Whale is good too.
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 18:16, closed)
ostrich is nice
crocodile isn't.
snake isn't bad. a bit bland and has the same texture as rabbit
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 20:16, closed)
I didn't much enjoy the last rabbit I had.

If you're in Edinburgh or Glasgow
Give this lot a try. I can recommend the Kangaroo haggis, Wild boar and Ostrich, but the Springbok was a little chewy.

Edit: They also have whole baby squid, snake, shark, whale and so on, depending on availability.

Went to the Edinburgh years ago and it was excellent

(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 13:29, closed)
Went there for my 21st earlier this year
I've been looking for an excuse to go again ever since.
(, Mon 5 Dec 2011, 17:20, closed)
If you're flying and you notice what other passengers are eating then you're not travelling in a posh enough class.

This is how flying should be flown.
The cocktail bar on Virgin flights is a bit tiddly.
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 19:08, closed)
nice cock design on the lamps

(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 20:16, closed)
I heard it was 'cause the stewardesses don't wash their hands after pissing all over them.
Ohh, & I fucking love peanuts!
(, Sun 4 Dec 2011, 21:01, closed)
