Controversial Beliefs
Some mugs still think the MMR injection gives children autism (it doesn't), while others are of the belief that we're ruled by billionaire lizard people. Tell us about views outside the mainstream which people go glassy eyed if you bang on about them (Your grandad's a racist - no need to tell us, thanks)

Only a global disaster can save us.
Technology is getting far too advanced. Cameras record your every move, phones with GPS record where you are and where you go. It won't be long before an app comes out that links your bank card to your phone, you'll just be able to wave your phone at a scanner to buy goods, eventually no-one will carry money anymore. How long before we are all implanted with a chip that has all of our details on and can be read by police with hand scanners? They do a similar thing with pets, why not people? When that happens you'll be given an account for your wage to go in which will be permanently linked with your implant. When you finish your shopping and walk out of the store you'll hear a beep, signalling that the credits have been deducted from your account. A voice will say "Thank you for shopping with us (your name), enjoy your day."
This is not some silly story, this is a vision of the future, a horrible future that's part 1984 and part Demolition Man. If you think this totalitarian future is a long way off just remember, we live in a world where people get arrested for making jokes on Twitter. It's a good thing we're not chipped yet or a lot of us would be locked up.
That's why need North Korea to sort their shit out, after the war the survivors can start afresh.
Length? We might not see it, but our kids will.

I don't see the problem with having chips implanted and movement being logged and one's likeness being recognised.

That's a very controversial belief.
It may help in preventing crime or catching criminals but our freedom and privacy would be lost. It's a big price to pay for the illusion of security.

It would negate our freedom to commit crimes.
I rarely, if ever, break the law but I want the option to if I choose.
I'm not arguing my case very well am I?

(sigh)
The trouble is the definition of "crime".
Theft, Murder, Arson, etc we can pretty much all agree that these are crimes.
Posit that Der Gubbermint, who are of course wonderful and caring human being who would never in a million years abuse their position of power, define "being a bit foreign in a built up area after the hours of darkness" as a crime, or "Wearing the same T-shirt two days in a row".
That's when things go nasty.
Or just watch the film "Brasil" and wonder how many Typos there are in the excellent databases kept by the police...

"It won't be long before an app comes out that links your bank card to your phone, you'll just be able to wave your phone at a scanner to buy goods"
Already exists. Some phones can be linked to bank accounts for contactless payments.

It's all coming true.
The wheels are in motion and there's nothing we can do to stop it. If anyone wants me I'll be in the sewer eating rat burgers with Denis Leary.

Have you ever mentioned how much you'd like to do something bad?
Ever mutter to someone whilst your in a queue about "if I don't get served soon I'll kill somebody" or something equally silly but inane?
If so, then I would worry about more surveillance unless you like losing your job and going to court (see Twitter Trial).
I could talk about if the BNP or someone else nasty got in but that's never going to happen is it? That's just an appeal to Godwin of course?
