This is a question Conversation Killers

ThatNiceMan asks: Have you ever been talking with people down the pub when somebody throws such a complete curveball (Sample WTF moment: "I wonder what it's like to get bummed") that all talk is stopped dead? Tell us!

Last night I'd just finished the book Legion by Dan Abnett
Overcome by its climax, I turned to the missus and started to say, "Oh, that was brilliant! The Cabal contacted the Alpha Legion and showed them the future - if they stayed loyal and sided with the Emperor then humanity would spend the next 30,000 years slowly descending into Chaos, but if they rebelled against the Emperor then humanity would be wiped out utterly, thus depriving Chaos of its victory...but of course as we know, they do rebel against the Emperor and the bad future happens anyway! Man, it's all so tragic!"

...by which point I was alone in the room.

It is a great read.
I'm now on Battle for the Abyss which I'm absolutely loving, even if it is about the smurfs :/

I think Legion was the last of the Heresy ones I read
went on to read an omnibus of later stories. Not so good.

I caned it through the first 9 or so heresy books in a couple of weeks. Surprisingly good stuff, although Thousand Sons dragged a bit.

I thought Thousand Sons was a lot better than Prospero Burns
But they're all surprisingly good - it's been ages since anything really captured my imagination like this...except one of my mates lent me a Ciaphas Cain novel the other week and I might have to track down a few more of those too :/

I haven't read Prospero Burns
I skipped a couple because the reviews on Amazon were dreadful.

I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed them. I did have to say to several people that I didn't play the games, was just reading some of the books though.

I was just getting back into gaming, well, painting at the moment in preparation for gaming
and picked up Thousand Sons on a whim

about ten books later I think I may be hooked :/

I found Horus Rising on a market book stall
and thought "I'll give that a go" the rest of the story unfolded much the same as yours

I wonder
if anyone will post saying that you've now spolit the ending for them.

I did consider posting spoiler tags
but I figured most people on here will either have read it or have no idea what I'm talking about

Not me
I'm in a small subset of the others. The subset that bought the book last night. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Must admit...
I found Legion a bit difficult to get into. Much preferred Horus Rising and Fulgrim.

If I knew what the fuck you were talking about
you'd have spoilt the ending for me, you thoughtless bastard.
