This is a question Corporate Idiocy

Comedian Al Murray recounts a run-in with industrial-scale stupidity: "Car insurance company rang, without having sent me a renewal letter, asking for money. Made them answer security questions." In the same vein, tell us your stories about pointless paperwork and corporate quarter-wits

In the wake of Dr Shipman I now have to take ridiculously expensive exams and spend hours providing evidence to show I don't want to kill people.
This makes me want to kill people.

I get it from the other side.
I've spent far too much time combatting the argumentum ad shipmanum against euthanasia.
"You can't legalise euthanasia, because SHIPMAN," it goes.
Hmmmm.
Did Shipman practice euthanasia? Nope.
Did euthanasia being illegal stop him? Nope.
Did just about all deliberate killing being illegal stop him? Nope.
So I surmise that a person determined to kill isn't going to be deterred by the illegality of that action, is he? In which case, it makes no odds at all to the protection question whether or not euthanasia is illegal. All the law currently does is prevent arguably permissible killings happening, while doing nothing much to prevent the impermissible ones.

I agree, I should be allowed to euthanase whoever I want.

Quite right
There are two types of criminal. Those that plan it beforehand, and those that don't.

The ones that plan it beforehand generally take all the steps they can think of to avoid getting caught.

The ones that don't plan it beforehand... don't plan it beforehand. But, they generally do try to hide or destroy evidence of their crime afterwards so they don't get caught.

From this, I conclude that the only deterrent to committing crimes is the fear of getting caught. Something to think about next time police resources get cut/outsourced/reprioritised by any government that says they want to be tough on crime.

For the record, I am not police and have no connection to them (other than paying towards their cost through my taxes).
