This is a question Crap Gadgets

We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.

Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

adverts
Surely someone must have seen that advert that was on ages ago late at night.

“It slices, it dices….
“Have you seen cucumber cut like this before?
“These onions are perfect for a stew”
“Chips? No problem”

The advert was about 7 mins long and featured a stereotypical cockney market trader who had the best sales pitch in the world, and after 2 mins of watching him cut a carrot to perfection in less than 2 seconds – I was hooked. I had to have one.

JML certainly did their research on this guy before they hired him.

----------------------------------

Out of interest though, did any one remember the advert as follows:

“whats the fastest thing in the world? A plane, A bullet , the earth..”

“The answer is C – The earth, call now for your inventors pack and don’t get left behind”

Did anyone ever get a pack? I have to know….

Infomercials
I love the way they talk on those adverts. It's just so unatural and forced, but they all use the same tone of voice, tempo and phrasing. It's fascinating.

Not me, but a friend etc
A mate did ring up for one of those inventor packs. I can't remember if the pack ever arrived, but I do remember that he got a phone call from the company asking him for details of his invention.

He curtly told them that of course he hadn't invented anything yet, he was waiting for his pack to arrive.

Same thing happened to me.
I phoned up, and left my name and number.

They phoned back a few days later and I was at school, they asked to speak to me, but my mum said I was out, but she had a good invention. They didn't want to hear it (probably because she is a feeble minded female). Jokes on them though (and my mum), as some company like Boots has a product just like what my mum wanted to make.

I never got to speak to them :( My invention goes unrealised.

I also never got my Inventors Pack.

A housemate at uni got one of those packs
they hounded him on the phone to send back the pack, it got to the point that the called him at least once a day.

He ended up telling them that he'd invented a method of using glass to see through walls and they left him alone.
