This is a question Customers from Hell

The customer is always right. And yet, as 'listentomyopinion' writes, this is utter bollocks.

Tell us of the customers who were wrong, wrong, wrong but you still had to smile at (if only to take their money.)

I hate sales people
They should all commit mass suicide or something.

Anyway I once had some blaggard call and ask, curtly, if he could speak to Liz. 'Liz' being my very prim and proper Director Elizabeth, who I would never dare call "Liz" (Its Probably like phoning Buckingham Palace and doing the same thing)

I, stunned, reply "Um...do you mean Elizabeth?"
"Yeh"
"I'm sorry she is currently out of the office, can I take a message?" I reply in polite robotic fashion, and genuinely she was out at the time.

"Nah, well, I'm calling from -insert Gobshite mobile phone company name- about our new programme blah blah blah."

We have one mobile phone that sits in the cupboard switched off and that probably belongs in a museum.

"I'm sorry" I Interject tactfully, "We are not interested"

"So you're not interested in saving money?
"Um...no"
"Can I ask why?"
"...Because I'm a moron."

oh yes
we get loads of recruitment agencies and various techie companies ring us for pointless meetings to try and promote stuff, we just roll out the "im sorry sir we don't take cold calls" or play pass the parcel and see how many times they can be transferred before hanging up.

msn also makes this easier so you can get people from 3 or 4 different depts in on it straight away!

I get four or five calls a day
despite getting on the Telephone Preference Service about seven weeks ago. Usually, telling them you're a member and asking to be removed from their database shuts them up.

I'm tempted to take up every call I get and see if I actually can save money. But I just like to spite the fuckers.

Money for service
I like to tell them that it comforts me to go with a company that doesn't have to phone strangers up to get buisness and that to me is worth the extra pennies.
Or at least I will when I hit 50.

Hmm....
As someone that's had to work in this rather vile trade, let me shed a fraction of light upon those of you who might not understand a thing or two about the delightful telesales 'industry'.

First and foremost, only a miniscule handful of people actually -opt- to work in this field. For the vast majority of them, it's a question of 'work or be on benefits' or 'my student loan needs paid off'.

Of course, little sympathy should hang for them in the most part, least of all myself, as with my severance from my last job I -could- have just lingered around doing fuck all for a month or so.

However, I decided to go back into work, and ended up selling services for a telephone provider (whose name rhymes with 'WalkWalk'). The job was vile, and the people I was forced to attempt communication were even worse. I made no bones about the fact that this was an inconvenience to them, but tried desperately to maintain -some- manners where possible.

However, think of it like this. You pick up a phone, speak to a sales agent for around 1-2 minutes. Yes, that might piss you off, wasting two minutes of your day, but consider that the agent in question is also thinking the same thing. Yes, most of the time they're paid on commission, so they're going to question your lack of interest. If you can give a fair reason, most will accept it, hang up and (using their system) try to remove you from the data listings they have.

If you're not interested, you're not worth their time. Thus, if they call you back, nine out of ten times, its their dialling system that's automatically added you, not them.

Just look at it like this, some people need to make money, and sometimes they need to sink as low as telesales. They're not out to get YOU, they're just looking for someone interested. Give them a break, most of them can't stand working in their position.

Those that do? Yeah, rip through them all you want. THEY deserve it.

Cunts.
