Dad stories
"Do anything good for your birthday?" one of your friendly B3TA moderator team asked in one of those father/son phone calls that last two minutes. "Yep," he said, "Your mum." Tell us about dads, lack of dad and being a dad.

Oh go on, another one!
Post numero 2!
Last year, I took a job with a certain large, red telecommunications company - the same one my Dad still currently works for. Halfway through my tenure there, I moved from Hampshire (where they, and my Dad, are based) to Brighton - a good 200 miles, so I was doing the whole 2.5 hour commute. The job itself was...bleh. I didn't mind it, but I wasn't particularly enjoying it, certainly didnt feel worth the commute. I worked under a complete, religious, up-his-own-butthole twunt called Matt (for that is his name). No one liked Matt. No other departments. No one. He was hired onto the company via the preverbial 'golden handcuffs' and so didn't really do anything, but was paid 80k a year to do so. One day earlier this year, a Friday no less, 2 days after he was told he had 90 days to find another job within the company otherwise he was fired, he decided to take his frustration out on me. He waited until after my 2.5 hour train journey to get into the office, then took me into an office at 9am to say "I'm firing you for gross misconduct. I'll pay you for a week but don't come in again." The reason? For doing a job he'd asked me to do ontop of my standard duties. Dick.
How is this Dad related you say? Well as I said earlier, my Dad and I worked for the same company, albeit in different departments. I've always had a bit of a hang up with my Dad - in general he's a good guy, but, he's never really been that supportive. Not in an abusive way don't get me wrong, but, would never say "well done" when I did well at school, or come and see any of my gigs etc. Equally, he was a man who, although swore regularly, ferverently refused to say anything particularly harsh, such as "fuck".
Back to the story. After I was fired, I left a note on my Dad's desk explaining, and went on the long-haul train back to Brighton. My Dad called me later. Apparently Matt (who he'd long had a distaste for) wandered over to his desk at one point and said "So how do you feel?" in a fairly smug demeanour. Dad's response?
"How do you think I fucking feel you stupid twat? You fired my son. You think I'm going to be fucking happy about it? You're a fucking bully, its no wonder you're going you egotistical arsehole. Are you you really that fucking stupid? Fuck off" Before practically having to be held back by his co-workers from punching Matt in the face.
The happy ending? Matt was refused a job anywhere else in the company so lost his job, I got a new, better paid, closer to Brighton job for a rival telecommuncations company which I love, and the relationship I have with my Dad now couldn't be better. I fucking love that guy :D

You'll fit right in round here
The dismissal sounds totally made up, how can you be sacked for "doing a job he'd asked me to do ontop of my standard duties". At best you've left a large part of this story out. Also, irrespective of this, you would have been able to rape them at a tribunal for the lack of aherence to procedure for the dismissal. As you're not crowing about it I infer that you lack the imagination to have added it to your lie.
Carry on liaring

To clarify:
1) Tried to keep length to minimum
2) I was still on a weekly contract, rather than a salary, giving him the right to fire me with no notice - he thought it kind to give me a 'week'. This is a standard practice for employers with employees on week-contracts.
3) To explain, my usual job involved processing orders. He asked me ontop of that to look after the pricing portal that was used to give potential customers an idea of how much they'd pay to get a circuit installed. He spent the Thursday afternoon watching me from behind his partition making changes to this portal and doing general admin on it. On the Friday, he fired me because I didn't process any orders on the Thursday afternoon. Like I said, this guy was an arsehole and at the end of the day, he could have made any reason up to fire me, and being on a week-contract my rights didn't really come into it.
4) Just try and take something like that to a tribunal - it'll go no where, not with that kind of outside contracting.
You can believe the truth, or, you can sit and troll. That's up to you - there's no point accusing people of lying so aggresively just because you have questions.
Besides, if I were lying, the story would have involved something along the lines of: "YEAH SO MY DICKHEAD BOSS TOTALLY FIRED ME FOR DOING MASSIVE DRUGS AT WORK, SO WHEN HE WAS OUT OF THE OFFICE I FUCKED HIS WIFE ON HIS DESK WHILST HIS KIDS WATCHED LOLOLOLOL"
You can chose to believe it and get the point of the story, that my Dad did something very nice, or, you can live under a bridge. Either way, I'm happy in my new position! :)

So you weren't really "fired" at all
Your temp contract was determined by your employer. What a disappointment.
I like that Matt guy, I think he should have binned your old man off for being a gobby shite with the swares.

A) My temp contract was ceased by my employer with no advanced notice. Ala firing.
B) Matt didn't work in the same department as my Dad and had no say as to whether my Dad was fired or not.
Seriously have you nothing better to do?

You stupid cunt, no wonder Matt hates you
You were given notice, by your own admission you were told to fuck off after the week : "This is a standard practice for employers with employees on week-contracts" That isn't being fired, it's called having your temp contract determined by your employer with the provision of one weeks notice. Your employment ended.
Hopefully you've now grasped this point. Why not go and explain it to your old man now, as his grasp on employment law is just as crippled as yours. Also remind him that attempting to attack and issuing verbal insults to management should have resulted in disciplinary proceedings for gross misconduct. Looks like my mate Matt went easy on him.

Not his management. Try reading.
And wow, who pissed in your cup of tea?

Oh, so it's all right to threaten to attack and verbally abuse a member of the management team
as long as it's not your own immediate management. You long streak of piss, why have you posted this shit onto a messageboard?

That's a bit harsh ...
he may well not have given us the whole story. It may have been edited for continuity purposes but to berate a relative newbie in this unnecessary fashion smacks to me of ballbagism. If you don't like his story or think there may be a Walter Mitty element to it ... move on, there are plenty more.

I have to agree with the Lion.
I can see why you like your father for what he said -- but this is just a story about someone's contract being ended and their father assaulting* a fellow employee.
*might be another legal term, but that will do.
