This is a question DIY disasters

I just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.

Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

Tell us of your own DIY disasters.

B&Q kitchens
I have a long and chequered history with DIY... In fact as we speak my house is in dissarray whilst I'm slate tiling the ground floor.

Anyway, I think one of the worst was when I bought a kitchen from B&Q.

They confirmed the delivery, phoned several times before to confirm again and again. Including the night before the actual delivery date.

SO on "delivery day" I woke up and my mates and I ripped out the old kitchen. I mean totally gutted the whole kitchen, tiles off the wall sink out and even the plumbing cut back to just the stubs of copper pipes poking out the wall.

Imagine a room complete bare of everything, the only clue to it's use was 2 inches of copper tube poking out of the wall.

Now all I had to do was build my new kitchen....

It got to 5pm and still no kitchen. I phoned B&Q who told me their deliveries are up to 5:30pm. That time came and went.

I phoned again; "Where's my kitchen delivery?!" "What kitchen delivery? We have no record of a delivery to you today?".

Oh bugger.

By means only possible through B&Q they managed to totally not pick, load or try to delivery anything to me. Leaving me with absolutely no kitchen facilities whatsoever.

Even better it only took another 6 weeks to get the kitchen delivered.

The wife was not impressed. On the plus we had take-aways and microwave food for 6 weeks, although we had to wash the plates in the bath.

Lesson learnt... B&Q are the mother source of all DIY fuckups.

We've all had a B&Q experience!
Managed to deliver us twice the amount of all the wrong 'bits' of kitchen on the first attempt. Then when asked to collect it they delivered another complete set of the crap they'd sent us the first time.

Four months later we finally told the nice people at B&Q that they, and their flat packed kicthens could go forth and multiply.

For a short time we actually had about 3 complete kitchens in the house

B&Q bathroom
i had similar - ripped out bathroom, delivery planned that day. Driver goes awol and doesn't answer phone. B&Q say "its been delivered Mr C" " No it feckon hasn't" and so forth.

About 6.30pm and loads os shouting later, it turns out the driver was on his last day, was a twunt anyway but had been given notice to finish up that day. He found a different Mr C in the village and delivered everything to their back garden.

They asked if i could go an pick it up from there - pretty much due to size of shower doors etc would have needed at least a Luton with a tail lift and i wasn't insured to move it.

W*nkers.

MFI are twats too.
My cousin had 3 kitchens from MFI: first one was wrong, second one was bodged by the fitters, and when they came to fit the 3rd, they tried to nick the new stuff and put back the (damaged) second one. The cops were called and coz had to be blue-lighted into hospital with chest pains from the stress.

His wife's a lawyer though so MFI wound up paying for a proper builder to fit it, an upgrade on the cooker, ALL the takeaways they had to buy while they had nothing to cook on, and the kitchen was free.

Six weeks?
I don't know how people let themselves get walked over like that, I really don't. You let them piss about for six weeks and you STILL gave them your money?

Why on earth didn't you just cancel and take your business elsewhere?
