This is a question Narrow Escapes

IHateSprouts tells us they once avoided getting caught up in an IRA bomb attack by missing a train. Tell us how you've dodged the Grim Reaper, or simply avoided a bit of trouble.

.
My inadvertent opening of a door to see what all the noise was about stopped someone hanging themselves last night. I just got back from the hospital now. Hopefully everything will be alright.

EDIT: Should probably point out that a) Mr Anodyne was said person and b) today is my 21st birthday

Brilliant work there.
Suicide causes an unbelievable amount of stress and misery for lots of people, lasting for years and years. Well done for averting that.

Holy shit...
...that could have been much, much worse for everyone involved.

Feck
My ex decided to take the weekend when my new girlfriend was down as an opportunity to try to commit suicide, so she stuffed herself full of sleeping pills and collapsed on the floor of her flat, before sending me text messages like "Whx dotn yuo come adn pikc me up off teh folor? I jsut wnat ot go to bed."

Thanks, love. One 999 call, one stomach-pump and 24 hours later, she realised that that was not in fact the best course of action to be pursuing at that precise moment in time. Or, indeed, ever.

Well done from me; and I hope it all works out.

Suicide - the best way to tell people you love yourself so much and are so lazy you don't give a FUCKING SHIT what they think.
It's the most selfish act in the world. No excuses.

I guess it depends on why you do it. If you are seriously ill and in so much pain that you can't function, and are facing a miserable drawn out undignified death, which not only you but your loved ones will suffer through as they watch you dwindle, then maybe it's a way out that might be permitted.
Just sayin.'

Yeah - OK.
Euthanasia excepted.

But because it's all so unfair and it's raining outside - no.

Vagabond
Depression is usually a little more complicated than just feeling a bit sorry for yourself. I don't condone committing suicide but people with depression are seriously ill and need treatment not scorn.

I hope that it works out and he is going to be ok.

This is generally the problem.
There is far too much use of the word depression when use of the phrase 'i'm feeling a bit down today' would suffice.

umm...
happy birthday? I really hope he's ok, and I'm very glad you caught him in time.
