This is a question False Economies

Sometimes the cheapest option isn't the right one. I fondly remember my neighbours going to a well-known catalogue-based store and buying the cheapest lawnmower they stocked. How we laughed as they realised it had non-rotating wheels and died when presented with grass. Tell us about times you or others have been let down by being a cheapskate.

fucking iPhone 5 cables
biggest single rip off ever.

I am on my 3rd official one from Apple, however when my first one decided to fuck off to the land of all the other Apple cheaply made tat, I decided to purchase a "lightning cable" from Asda.

It worked for 3 weeks. Then that got fucking put out in the garden along with the iron to think about how they had annoyed me and let me down.

Pieces of shite.

You bought an iPhone, I have no sympathy.

Yeah, like the cables are the single biggest rip off - not the closed Apple system nor the initial price of
iPhones.

Well, there are other makes of internet-capable touchscreen phones.

I bought one of these, they were 99p at the time.

Had it three months, not a problem. Get an error message saying it might not be compatible but it charges my phone fine.

The reviews do not fill me with confidence
But for a few quid it might be worth a punt, cheers

I thought I had a run of bad lightning cables.
Turns out the port was just full of pocket fluff. Check for fluff.

yeah i have tried all this - with an official Apple cable no problem charging...
...until the cable gives up the ghost.

Any other cable from any other manufacturer just works intermittently and then just stops after a few weeks.

I thought all phone manufacturers were going to use the same port type for charging/connecting?
I guess Apple missed that memo...

That said, my phones, tablet, and Kindle all work via micro USB.

Don't get me wrong, I like Apple products - used to use various models in the Macintosh range for design work, but IMO anything in the range beginning with 'i' denotes 'idiot'.

I thought this also, I kind of have high hopes the next iteration of the iPhone will have micro USB
Saying that though i have a new Nexus and that seems dodgy charging too...perhaps its just me.

Never had any problems with either of mine. Maybe you are just a klutz?

My friend proudly showed me his micro USB - iPhone5 adapter this week
He says it's made his life infinitely easier
