This is a question Famous people I hate

Michael McIntyre, says our glorious leader. Everyone loves Michael McIntyre. Even the Daily Mail loves Michael McIntyre. Therefore, he must be a git. Who gets on your nerves?

Hint: A list of names, possibly including the words 'Katie Price' and 'Nuff said' does not an interesting answer make

David cunt fucking
Tennant, russel T davies and all the other bollock licking turd swines who have anything to do with the new Dr Who. They have destroyed the program with their pandering to mass media scriptlines instead of looking after the avid fans who kept it alive over the decades. Hartnell through to McCoy were genuine Drs who cared about the part and gave each Dr a different personality, but this new crap i now refuse to watch, i just watch old episodes on video.

Torchwood? I shit it.

To be fair
it was pandering to the avid fans in the 80's that killed the show in a lot of people's minds. RTD knew that, and, in my view, successfully relaunched a show that had become a national joke by the end of its original run. 10 million viwers in a multi-channel age? That's pretty impressive stuff, the original series rarely got those figures in the old 3-channels days, apart from odd periods.

Not everything RTD did with the programme has been good, but then, can you honestly look at the original run and say everything about it was brilliant? There was some utter crap produced throughout its 26 years. I know, I have a lot of it on video, because I'm a sad fan who would buy something for completeness sake, even if the episodes in question were total shit. Granted, I'd usually wait until they were in a sale or something, but still...

As for Tennant not caring about the part - utter bollocks. He became an actor because he was a massive fan of the show and wanted to play the Doctor.

Agreed, the McCoy years saw some of the worst writing and the most abject mistreatment of the canon built up over the years. In fact, the series would have been better served without the McCoy years altogether. This wasn't a problem wholly intrinsic to Dr Who in those days, it was more symptomatic of the dire state of late 80's BBC output.

Watching McCoy stories these days makes me cringe in remembrance of how bad TV from that time really was.

I actually didn't mind McCoy
Well, his last 2 series anyway. It wasn't brilliant, but trying something a bit different. Some of it misfired, some of it didn't.

His first series was perhaps one of the worst TV series ever, and I nearly gave up at that point.

McCoy
killed it for me.

It's all become a bit nu-age for my liking.

I used to be fucking terrified of daleks, but now, well, I can take them with a pinch of salt!

Of course, this could be something to do with being 8 years old when Tom Baker was the Dr, and that I am now 37 years old and realise that they are of course, fictional.

Daleks my arse.
Daleks weren't scary, they were just loud. Robots of Death were fucking terrifying though.

I hold out in hope that they're going to get better
now that Steven Moffatt is head of the writing team. RTD's writing has got better as the series have progressed - I thought Eccleston played the part really well, on the whole, but was let down by a series of puerile stories, and the last series, despite having to put up with Catherine Tate and a couple of howlers, was the most consistent of the new ones so far.

Similarly I'd agree that McCoy was a pretty good doctor, but was let down by some bloody awful stories. (Dragonfire is just embarrassing) But, having coincidentally re-watched Remembrance of the Daleks last night, there seemed to be something about that era which just seemed perpetually badly executed, even though the story in question was pretty good. Though that could just be the presence of Ace.

It's for a new generation though, isn't it?

Admittedly, I'm a fan of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker [whose Dr I grew up with], but I can genuinely say that some of the David Tennant stories have been brilliant, even though they didn't feature cardboard sets or extras dressed up in rubber suits.

IMO, none of the new episodes can even hold a candle up to "Pyramids of Mars" / "Image Of The Fendhal" / "The Curse of Peladon" etc, but that was a different age, a different time, and now we are grown-ups, let us not forget.

Torchwood was overly coloured by Davies' relentless hammering of his Gay Agenda, but even so - it had some good moments...

I'm a fan
of old and new.

Some people love the new version but can't get away with the old, and vice versa. Such is life. It's all subjective, innit?
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 15:55, closed)

The saving grace though, for kids now captivated by Dr Who is that there's this whole canon from the "classic" series waiting for them to discover. However, whether they'd even see it as the same show is a different matter.

My missus works with a 12 year old autistic kid
Who actually prefers the old series (although Tennant is his favourite Doctor).

Jellybaby?
I think the new Doctor Who is brilliant (never Dr Who come on! minus 10 geek points)

Tom Baker was my favorite until Tenant somtimes he was a bit manic goggly eyed but mostly he played a blinder.

When Catherine Tate was going to be the new assistant I paniced but the writing made up for the fact I didn't like her and eventualy she was brilliant

Torchwood is scooby doo without the comedy dog ;)
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 16:25, closed)
Agreed
I did like Mccoys stories such as curse of fenric and rememberance of the Daleks, others were bad such as Delter and the bannermen. I do agree with you all in parts and am glad children are getting the enjoyment but on a personal level it doesnt do it for me, Bad time lords? A crap new Master. Shameless media over dosing, Dr who confidential and the best of Dr who which manages to forget all the other Dr Whos. Now we have a new even bloody younger Dr Who, He´s getting younger and younger each time! The producers are going to have a Sperm playing the part soon. *Breathes* x

I just Can´t
Agree with you over Tennant D.G and your username shows you are an avid fan also. It´s defiantely a can of worms when posting something like this, but i stand by my statement. :-)

Fair enough, sir.
Most lay people couldn't stand Colin Baker. I thought he was fucking awesome and got a bum deal during his era.

I've never disliked a Doctor, but if I'd have to cite my least favourite it would, I think, be Pertwee. But even he was great.
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 23:35, closed)
Bad Time Lords isn't a new thing
See The Five Doctors (President Borusa) for proof.

I don't think Peter Davison (the 1st Dr I remember seeing) was much over 30 when he took on the role, although I admit I think Matt Smith maybe a bit too young but I have high hopes for him.
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 16:22, closed)
Especially when you consider
how old Pertwee and Hartnell. Besides, I don't see Hartnell as the Doctor. I see him as the c/o from Carry on Sergeant.
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 17:49, closed)

John Simm as the Master is a stupid retrograde cast.

In the first part of the Christmas special he seemed to be based on a character from Streetfighter caught in Chris Cunningham's "Come To Daddy" video.

Kyle Mclachlan would make a much better choice, someone with an air of the sinister about them at least [a-la Delgado, Ainley, etc...]

Personally - I'd love to see Tom Baker in the role, as he himself has expressed an interest. Anyone but Simm....

i could never agree with this
purely for one episode: Blink.
that was fucking brilliant as well as quite creepy.
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 18:10, closed)
^This^
Also the two episodes with the gas mask child (I still here people saying "Are you my mummy?" every now and then, so I can't be the only one).
Both were written be Steven Moffat who is now head writing bod (as said above) so hopefully the episodes can get better.

I personally like both old and new episodes, all doctors have had good and bad episodes, although for some reason I really cannot stand Peter Davison's doctor. Like DG I want the whole lot, good or bad, so I will end up watching all of it (funds dependent).
(, Mon 8 Feb 2010, 18:57, closed)
These are both written by Stephen Moffat, so yay!
And as you said... he's taking over. So let's hope for more like this.

Personally, I *loved* the girl in the fireplace, which I believe is written by Moffat as well.
(, Tue 9 Feb 2010, 0:34, closed)
If you noticed the "next season" trailer after The End Of Time at Christmas...
you'll see the "blink" statues are back. They pop up at least twice. Plus I notice the new Doctor fires a gun - almost unheard of, snogs a girl - also rare and something else I can't remember. Hang on while I got watch the thing again
(insert hold music here)
Oh yeah, you also see a Dalek in there, but it's not one of the new shiny gold ones, it's an old-school grey Dalek, which makes me think there might be some kind of flashback to the pre Davros days story in the works.
(, Tue 9 Feb 2010, 3:16, closed)

That's probably from a Mark Gatiss story "Victory Of The Daleks."

There's some great writers lined up for the new season, including of course Moffatt himself whose stories have been brilliant. As long as Smith can hold the character together and make an impact - I am hoping for great things.

Billie Piper, chimp faced, rubber lipped, chav munter that she is.
Almost managed to beat Bonnie "WHAT WERE YOU _THINKING!_" Langford as most eye gougingly irritating companion ever.

But not quite.

She is however a lot of the reason I can't watch most* of the new Dr. Who without snarling and gnashing my teeth.

How dare she even try to stand next to Louise Jameson, and Nicola Bryant...

Froth, gnash etc.

*Blink is a notable exception
