The problem with Freddie Mercuryis that he will be known by "the great showman/performer" cliche. People seem to forget/discard the fact that he was a great musician first and foremost.
But I like Brian May, he wrote '39 and appears on Sky at Night.

AgreedFreddie was a lot more than just a showman, but it still doesn't change the fact that he was the band and now he's gone, it's a pale imitation of what it once was. Some things should be allowed to die with dignity.

I am a big Queen fan, but I acknowledge that quite a bit of stuff is extremely 'naff'i.e. the 'Hot Space' album and Bohemian Rhapsody - there, I said it. It really isn't all that.
