A must see
Akira

made me friends watch it and they kinda just sat there before the debate over what the heck just happened started.

I did that!
still haven't been forgiven for it either.

Strangely though they liked Ghost in the Shell

vroom
Akira was just meh for me. I felt it was a load of hype and much more preferred to watch Castle Cagliostro or Laputa. No, it wasn't the violence that turned me away, heck I'm a Hokuto No Ken fan, I just felt no attachment to any part of Akira. Glad someone else liked it though.

Yes it's a classic
Yes it's very well done, historically important and does have some uber-cool moments.
But I didn't warm to the characters and the ending made my brain hurt.
I enjoyed Laputa and Project A-Ko more.

oooh
I spent the last two evenings watching the Karas films, first one is a bit mental but it all comes together in the second.

Think Studio Ghibli is definately coming out very well in the picks so far.
