This is a question First World Problems

Onemunki says: We live in a world of genuine tragedy, starvation and terror. So, after hearing stories of cruise line passengers complaining at the air conditioning breaking down, what stories of sheer single-minded self-pity get your goat?

All the kiddies playing Guitar Hero for a week and assuming that they can play a real guitar,
Then getting their parents to buy up all the 2nd hand Gibson SGs and Fender Stratocasters, finding out they can't be bothered after a couple of hours trying and just leaving them in a box in their bedroom.

Thereby causing the price to go up for actual guitarists who want to buy one to PLAY IT.

This is usually the same kind of twunt who proudly declares that they're 'in a band' when what they mean is, them and some mates have decided what to call their band despite not being able to play anything, having no instruments to play and no skill to play with.

I take it you're in a band?
And have mad, guitar shredding skillz!?
(, Sat 3 Mar 2012, 18:55, closed)
no, I'm the chief technical engineer and 2nd sound engineer at our recording studio
so I see the trends, through the industry gen.know. and publications and the usual gossip and hearsay, and also associate with the bands and 'talk' with them which informs my opinion.

Haha
Excellent answer!

A few of my friends work as techies. Some lead singer with the musically challenged problem described in the OP was having a go at one of them once, "Do you know who I AM?"
Him, calmly: Well, I've been doing this for years, and I only learn the names of bands who get booked twice. I won't learn yours.

Ok, you have a justifiable argument
As you were, I've been told

I was also in one of those 6th form bands - "The World's Most Daring Vagabonds and Villans"
I played the drum machine, and we covered such classics as "Hey Mona" by Craig McLachlan and the Lumberjack song from Monty Python

Surely the spoilt brats will get their parents to buy them new guitars, which they'll then flog when they realise they can't play, bringing the cost of second hand guitars down.

nouveau riche folks don't recycle
you're lucky if they give them away.

Re: Guitars
I see the Argos Elevation ones a lot in the kind of talentless bands you mentioned.

I was quite amused to see an act at Eurovision on one of these a few years ago.

EDIT: Ugh, just read the Argos description: "The Elevation Full Size Electric Guitar with 15W Amplifier is the perfect kit to kick start your musical career! With a classic design, the full size Elevation has a maple neck and 22 frets on a smooth rosewood fretboard. Complete with a 15W Amplifier and lead, you will be able to practise your rocking riffs at full volume." They should be shot.

as someone who knows nothing about this
But wouldn't mind learning to play guitar.
Would this be an ok model to learn on without a massive investment though.
(, Mon 5 Mar 2012, 11:33, closed)
No, no it would not...
But depending on what you call "massive investment"
£400 odd should see you with something
a) worth playing
b) worth selling on once you either outgrow it or decide your work here is done.
