im trying to find a job
went to tesco infirmary road. "oh, we don't tend to take on students. you should look on west street. they have a high turn over"

went to west street. "oh, we're not hiring because business is quiet over the summer. you should look on edward street. i hear their manager is struggling to cover holidays"

went to edward street. "we're not really hiring at the moment. the ecclesall road tesco is much bigger. they must have some vacancies..."

NO. they probably don't. because you don't actually know, do you???? what a waste of an afternoon.

Tesco?
Try the one on Archer Road, that might work for you. Failing that, get yourself to Blue Arrow, just over the street from the HMV close to the Cathedral tram stop. Oh, and it's downhill from that tram stop.

/grew up in Sheffield, and I hope this helps.

Instead of passing HMV
Go in and get an application form, for retail it's good pay and if you like film or music then you get a 30% discount, I worked there in 2001 when i came back from travelling. I worked at tesco when i was a student (1991), hell on earth! HMV love hiring students as well. Sure you will have to put up with people that think they are way cooler than they actually are but I found most of em to be a good bunch.

keep going.
At least you are trying though - putting in the effort to do the rounds asking for work is much more likely to succeed that sitting at home moaning about not having work.

Keep at it and you will find something sooner or later. I would suggest though, that taking the initiative to actively seek out work is more likely to win you points with a smaller business run by someone with common sense and a value for a strong work ethic rather than large branches of mega-chain shops, which tend to be managed by HR departments who have silly recruitment targets and checklists to adhere to.

I'm probably wrong.
But I thought that all Tesco recruitment would go through head office and/or approved agencies in order to obey employment law?
Might a letter to their recruitment department asking about positions open or agencies to register with help?
