This is a question Heroes and villains of 2011

Who were your heroes or villains of the last year, and why? Who inspired you? Who had you kicking the cat across the room? They don't have to be well known, you might even want to laud the achievements of your binman. (Note that "Nick Clegg nuff said" answers puts you straight onto our naughty list)

Villain: Last year's hero Julian Assange
For being a two-faced cunt when it came to his own memoirs. After accepting what is rumoured to be a seven-figure advance (in US$), and spending 50 hours with a ghost writer, he declared that, "all memoir is prostitution".

According to the Independent newspaper, quoted on Wired "Assange felt the book was too heavy on personal details and too light on manifesto."

Exactly which bit did he think the publishers were paying him for?

Strangely, however, despite wanting to end his contract with publishers Canongate, Assange was unable to repay his advance. Rumour has it that he's put the money in escrow to pay for his defence against the sex-crimes he's accused of.

And if he's found guilty of those crimes, he's an even bigger cunt.

And his organisation is a bunch of ass-hats for not properly securing the database of diplomatic cables it kept, allowing anyone with the right (publicly-known) password access to the unredacted documents, which include the names of known or suspected agents. I'm all for openness, but that's a bit much.

I'm, not defending the guy as I do think he's a pompous ass.
However, the crimes of which he stands accused are not crimes in the UK. I take a very dim Daily Fail type view of rapists, but consenting to have sex with someone and not realising the condom broke and they did not tell you does not make you a rape victim.
I completely agree about his Autobiography and many other things -- but I think the rape charges are trumped-up bollocks. They bring to mind the conspiracy theories surrounding Dominique Strauss-Kanh's sexual assault charges though I've not heard enough about Dominique Strauss-Kahn's situation to have an opinion either way on that one.

Well he's a bit of creep, a lot of folk want him jailed anyway and he's not physically strong enough to cause trouble in prison.
Therefore, he's as good as guilty.

Are you describing me there, or Asange*?
*Not to be confused with a "sange", which is a French ape or monkey.

Him.

Agreed
Assange probably *is* a cunt. Which is a pity since I really like his cause.

Still, in all fairness, the charges against him really say more about Sweden that about Julian Assange. So he screwed a few groupies. Condom leaked (by accident or by design). No one got pregnant. Everybody move on with their life, please.

If they nail Assange they should nail most major rock bands as well.

Most major rock bands aren't habitual rapists though.
