This is a question Hypocrisy

Overheard the other day: "I've told you before - stop swearing in front of the kids, for fuck's sake." Your tales of double standards please.

I sat on the train into uni today
opposite a young couple. The young woman was complaining that she was tired because she'd been up half the night coughing and felt really ill. As she rolled a cigarette.

Hypocrisy or stupidity?!

through extensive research
I have found that if you have a cough as a result of a cold or something then smoking has bugger all effect on it, therefore it's better to smoke and not miss the effects of that than to stop smoking for the duration of the cough.

Agreed
In a lot of cases smoking will ease the cough. Addiction is a terrible thing.

I have only once in my entire life been so ill that I couldn't smoke a joint to make myself better. I tried but it made me feel like I was going to die. Funnily enough, if I hadn't been taken to hospital when I was I actually would've died within a couple of hours.

sounds harsh
what was wrong with you?

I always find the smoking joints helps ;-)

It was when I got diagnosed with diabetes
I was pretty fucked, and in typical fashion refusing to go to hospital because 'I'll be alright when I've had a lie down and a joint' (completely wrong!)

Got dragged into a car by a couple of mates.

When I got to hospital my blood sugar was so high that the machines they had there wouldn't read it. Apparently I'm quite hard to kill.

Really fucked my foot up a few years back
Really mangled it.

Prescription painkillers made me feel fucking awful. Nothing sorted out the pain like a nice fat jazz cigarette.

Yep
Weed is definitely the best painkiller. And has fewer side effects than most of the prescription shit. Shame the Daily Mail-reading Middle Englanders get so up in arms every time allowing medical use of it is suggested.

Yet there never seems to be any kind of
"Let's stop giving morphine to cancer patients 'cuz it's like heroin..." debate.

How true
Never occurred to me, that.

I wouldn't...
They'll cancel out and you'll be left with a glass of water.
The bible got it backwards.

Wow you found a train you are allowed to smoke on?
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 17:45, closed)
not necessarily
she may have been rolling a cigarette ready to smoke when she got off the train.
(, Wed 25 Feb 2009, 19:05, closed)
Yes
That's what she was doing, cos she got off at my stop.
