They don't care about us
You when people say "I'm going to write to my MP", laugh at them say that chances it are it will just be a waste of your time.

Last year I wrote 3 letters/emails. One to my council opposing plans to turn our gorgeous old cinmea into a UCKG church (info:http://www.mcguffin.info/), and on the day of the release of Call of Duty: MW2, I wrote to both Keith Vaz MP (criticising his stance on the game in the commons, and reminding him that computer games were one of the few areas where British industry is succeeding, and he wants to stiffle it) and to Tom Watson MP, praising his opposition to Vaz's plans to further restrict the video game market.

All 3 of these had 'read acknowledgement reply' attached to them, meaning once they were opened, I would confirmation.
None of them, over five months later, have even been opened.

Indeed all of this. We live in far too pleasant a hegemony to want to really rock the boat.
Complaining to MPs is just one of the many things that keeps our fat, warm, lazy carcasses from rising up in rebellion.

My own MP is a diamond
unfortunately he's retiring this year, and will no doubt be replaced by the extremely attractive, but ultimately female Cameron who will be standing in his place

Those read acknowledgement things are bogus
You can't assume your email hasn't been seen just because you don't get one.

Gives me the option to not send a read receipt. I never send one because frankly I think they're fucking rude.

You should have set the Subject of your email to:
Either:

Your Payrise
Your brand new Merc is being delivered tomorrow.
Your expense claim investigation has now been dropped.


Then you would have got the read acknowledgement at least!

They tend not to reply if you're not one of their constituents
this is hard to differentiate with the fact that they tend not to reply even if you *are* one of their constituents

having said that, my MP's replies consist of forwarding reams of nonsense reeled off by the Home Office, which were only relevant to [issue in question] 3 years ago
