This is a question Old stuff I still know

Our Ginger Fuhrer says that he could still code up a simple game idea in Amstrad Basic, while I'm your man if you ever need to rebuild the suspension on an Austin Allegro (1750 Equipe version). This stuff doesn't leave your mind - tell us about obsolete talents you still have.

Musical uselessness
I can play the tune from the ASDA advert (der der der der-der *ching-ching*) on 34 musical instruments. At a conservative estimate.

Guitar
Mandolin
Banjo
Bass guitar
Double bass
Timpani
Violin
Viola
Cello
Harpsichord
Piano
Pump Organ
Hammond Organ
Harp
Celeste
Vibraphone
Glockenspiel
Xylophone
Tubular Bells
Trumpet
Trombone
Tuba
French Horn
Oboe
Bassoon
Cor Anglais
Saxophone
Clarinet
Recorder
Flute
Piccolo
Kazoo
Swanee Whistle
Hand bells

Why? I have absolutely no idea. But I miss being in the halls of residence near the music room *AND* knowing the door code.

Ah, but...
on the majority it is *only* the ASDA tune I can play.

you remind me of a friend of mine
who found a guitar in a skip. Took it home fidled with it till it 'sounded nice' (I checked it was a perfect open E chord)then worked how to play Paul Simon's "me and julio down by the schoolyard" making up his own chord shapes ...which is no mean feat.

He then claimed not to able to play anything else

Shurly if you came that far....

Was the door code the tune from the old ASDA advert?

I'd be impressed, but you can't play
it on a gong.

For ethical reasons...
... I've only included instruments capable of making pitched sound. Also - forgot:

Theremin
Touch tone phone (8 8 3 2 1 8 8 3 2 1)

not sure how you managed it
on a timpani.

Very slowly
and stopping to re-tune them using the pedals, at a rough guess.

I'm guessing by "tune", he means rhythm

If you can track it down
there's a track by Sky called 'tristans magic garden', where Tristan Fry, an ace percussionist, plays a tune on a pedal timpani.

[edit]
It's here, starts about 1:48
