Sorry to crap on about them but I am fucking loving these chaps at the moment. Steve Marriott's voice gives me a raging bone-on.

All the geezers who died from a lifestyle
Then Marriot died in a fire.

Poor bastard. What a voice.

One of my staff
saw him do a tiny pub gig a week before he died. Heartbreaking to see him reduced to such barrel-scraping and then to have such an ignominious demise.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:18, Reply)
Hell yeah!
I like.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:00, Reply)
That is really good.
I'll listen in full later.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:01, Reply)
Might be me sounding an idiot, but am I the only one who thinks he sounds like Robert Plant?

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:03, Reply)
Just listened to them both.
I think Marriot's voice is more soulful. IMHO
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:10, Reply)
I agree.
Amazing for a 5' cockney geezer.

Danny Dyer?

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:25, Reply)
It's the other way round.
He was Page's first choice for Led Zeppelin vocalist, followed by Terry Reid, apparently. Don Arden got heavy so it never happened.

Plant was a Marriott clone: this tune is a few years before Led Zeppelin:

Whole Lotta Love is the same fucking song. It's not a Small Faces original either but Plant's delivery and wholesale theft is plain to hear, eh?
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:12, Reply)
Ahh, fair enough
I just noted the similarities.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:14, Reply)
You're right.

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:14, Reply)
Fair enough
As Monty notes, Marriot got so fucked over by Don Arden he just lost the heart, and didn't do much after he was ejected from the Small Faces.

Monty - care to tell these people who was summoned to front the Faces? I'm a nice guy and can't summon up enough bile to spit it out.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:23, Reply)
Sorry, you said their name
Now you have to listen to it - www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJzcF0v1eOE
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:24, Reply)
Not clicking, no sir.
Have to say, Rod Stewart's a fucking shitcunt in the first place.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:28, Reply)
Come on Monty, I thought you liked this track?

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:31, Reply)
I didn't click
because I thought it was The Faces not the Small Faces, and fronted by Mick Hucknall which he did recently.

I love the Small Faces more than I love my own mother.

This is their best song, I think:

Sorry, it's good
But I much prefer Itchycoo Park.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:47, Reply)
Do you have their 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake' LP?
It's one of my favourite records ever.

I do not
As I've said before, I will listen to anything you recommend, I have to learn.

I mean FFS, I grew up listening to The New Seekers.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:52, Reply)
All or Nothing
Is one of the greatest vocal performances ever. Ever.

I'm too pissed to find it for you, but someone might.

By?

Small Faces

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:04, Reply)
Ahh, thank you

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:05, Reply)
I was very lucky in my musical schooling
but I have also spent fucking years and many thousands of pounds researching my genres of interest.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:00, Reply)
I've gone into some of the heaviest music money can buy, all stuff you'd hate
I simply don't know the older stuff.

Although I saw 'Whole Lotta Led' a few years back, and they were astonishing.

The heaviest music money could buy
in my day were these charming young chaps:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNK1tjNURTs&feature=related

My mate Biddy used to listen to them to help him sleep at night. Not a well boy.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:12, Reply)
I've met them
Me with the bassist

I was thinking more like this - www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTkZt8r2lko

Although, if you want really heavy (which I doubt), you've got these, these, or these.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:17, Reply)
I love Napalm Death

(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 22:18, Reply)
My pal
who featured in my completely made up pot/gangster post earlier is his fucking double, the poor bastard. He's a kind of Hucknall/Henry VIII hybrid. With added fat. And gingerness.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:27, Reply)
I despise Mick Hucknall.
I have no idea why.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:28, Reply)
Because he looks like a prick?
my ladypart is prettier than he is. And not ginger, thank fuck.
(, Wed 22 Dec 2010, 21:37, Reply)
You can't commit his name to pixels either.
To be fair to the man, he shares a seedy hobby with me and he's VERY good at what does in that.
