It's not guarenteedBut it's not actually very difficult to win money by playing poker. Winning enough to do more than pay for a few drinks occasionally, that's hard. But if you're a decent player and don't play above your abilities or funds, breaking even or winning slightly isn't hard. I've been doing it for the last year or so, just at slightly smaller stakes, as have quite a few of my friends.
The only time you're really going to win big is if you're in a game with half a dozen drunks.
