my grandmaused to stop and start again. she'd stop smoking for years at a time, then go back to 10 or more a day.
the other grandma smoked about 25 a day, and eventually lost a toe to gangrene. gangrene - who gets that outside of the 18th century?! this is what made me hate smoking so much, the sight of that horrible blackened toe. and then having to help an old lady wedge a four-toed foot into a shoe... put me off for life!
