I can't decide who is more shit
Pendulum or Chase & Status. Is it worse to sell out by peddling infantile nu metal with a DnB backdrop, or to sell out by peddling lowest common denominator chart shit?

I can't decide which of those two groups of cynical hypocrites to sneer at more.

Monty- can you advise please?

People who belittle someone else based on their opinion on something that is abstract in their personal enjoyment.
Is abstract the right word? I picked a random one that sounded poncy in this context. I mean, different people like different things, it doesn't make anyone better or worst.

Boy George's new single is on BBC 'breakfast' at the moment, it's seriously shit, I can't imagine people enjoying it, it's dull. But if they do, that's fair enough, different people like different things.

I guess my favorite heavy metal band is Linken Park or maybe Offspring.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:08, Reply)
Offspring aren't heavy metal
just so you know
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:10, Reply)
Aren't they? They have guitars and shout sometimes.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:11, Reply)
so do I
doesn't make me heavy metal
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:15, Reply)
They wear leather jackets too, and have tattoos.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:18, Reply)
I wore my leather jacket this morning
and intend to get a tattoo :-P
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:23, Reply)
Oh, so you know all about Heavy Metal too then !

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:25, Reply)
well, yes.
this has ruined my point.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:27, Reply)
This was brilliant.
Well done both of you.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:29, Reply)
I'm not belittling anyone.
I love all sorts of stuff, highbrow and lowbrow. I'm a confirmed postmodernist in that respect.

It's the music I sneer at, not the listeners.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:12, Reply)
I wish I'd seen this earlier
The suggestion that you don't sneer at people who listen to Pendulum is not only laughably untrue but can be provably contradicted via documented evidence in this very forum.

Now fuck off.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:01, Reply)
dude.
Previously was me being puckish. I was going through a bad patch.

Seriously, I apologise for the episode you are referring to. It was out of order and cockish. Having said that though, I am unapologetic re. finding Pendulum to be very very silly.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 12:45, Reply)
Apology accepted
*shakes internet hands*

Each to their own as regards Pendulum, you and I just going to disagree on this one
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 12:49, Reply)
I sneer at them too. You should try it.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:57, Reply)
My two cents
since seeing Pendulum in the summer at a festival I have been sneering my hardest in their direction.

I am not familiar with the others
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:09, Reply)
I've heard live is when they're at their best
So if they're shit there, there's no hope.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:11, Reply)
all the songs were exactly the same
and consisted of the wanker MC bellowing at the crowd "make some fucking noise!" every few seconds, among other such stupid shoutings.

It was like being at a particularly shit and loud pikey fairground.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:16, Reply)
I hate bad MCs.
I saw Benga DJing a while back, he was tremendous but had a terrible MC foisted on him. The wanker 'sang' the melody to Night and fucking ruined it.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:19, Reply)
Pendulum would have been bearable without the MC
although a bit dull.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:23, Reply)
I enjoyed seeing them at a gig
They manipulated a lot of their songs so that they sounded different to how they are on disc, and the set list was fairly varied. The MC was fucking irritating though.

I concluded yesterday that I don't have heavy enough music
I've been going through my old CDs and the only things that come close to heavy enough was Spineshank and Tool. Even Korn, with tuned down 7 string guitars, thrashing them and screaming "Shut up, shut up, shut up I'll fuck you up" wasn't doing the trick.

I need you to recommend me some really heavy stuff. You know the things I like, so I leave it in your capable hands. I have a meeting now though, so gaz me. Thank you.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:31, Reply)
I have a meeting too in a bit
Will work on it though.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:34, Reply)
Can't go wrong with a bit of Carcass.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:43, Reply)
Drop an anvil on your head.
doesn't get heavier than that.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:48, Reply)
Hard 'N' Heavy?

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:06, Reply)
I really like their cover of Violet Hill
/this is all I have to contribute to this.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:47, Reply)
Music is entirely subjective, and I don't think it makes sense to insult those who don't agree with your viewpoint
I pity them, mainly.

Not heard much Chase & Status
Some guy I know once told me that Pendulum were like the Def Leppard of Metal music. I liked them when I saw them live (Pendulum) though.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:30, Reply)
But, Def Leppard are fucking CLASS.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:47, Reply)
You've spelt 'really fucking bent' wrongly here.

(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 10:54, Reply)
I wish I had so little on my mind
that I could spend time deciding between two bands I didn't like.
(, Thu 27 Jan 2011, 9:51, Reply)
I think you should split your sneering equally between the two.

At a push 'Bendulum' are worse.
