why?

I thought I read that somewhere on here once.
I've just started to email some bloke that I don't know and he used one of these ;-)

Flirty.

I agree
I use smileys frequently, but only the following:
;-) -not serious
:-P -jokingly taking the piss
:-o -fake shock

This
it's easier to use a smiley and risk looking like a bit of a knob for it instead of being misconstrued. It's one of the things I hate about email/online conversations, is that I often can't tell if I sound like a dick when in fact I was only joking.

Yeah I use :) and :(

I suggested "Now that's what I call a reverse Dutch Steamboat 17"
as an album title to my band. They seemed surprisingly keen.

Do it!

(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 15:10, Reply)
"We're a much more depraved East 17"

(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 15:43, Reply)
it seems to me that if you're
emailing someone you don't know it may be wise to use them in case your words are misconstrued.

so is this guy, you know, a potential snog?
(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 14:49, Reply)
I have absolutely no idea.

(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 14:55, Reply)
That means maybe.

(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 14:56, Reply)
fuck yeah maybe
I was told he was "oriental"
(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 14:58, Reply)
I don't think oriental is PC anymore.
I like the chinks but they're just not tall enough : D
(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 15:02, Reply)
that's why I put that in quotations
is it more or less PC than "chinks"?

Is Asian the proper term?
(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 15:03, Reply)
I was just joking.
Chinks is even worse.

Yes Asian is the proper term.
(, Mon 31 Jan 2011, 15:05, Reply)
