Has anyone else listened to that documentary about the Amen break?
Fascinating stuff.

alright P Dizzle
Is that like a fag-break for Christians?

ha!
No. Very much not. It is a six second drum loop which has inspired an entire genre. You would recognise it if you heard it.

Just looked it up, and I do.
Reminds me a of a similar rhythm which runs through a Weather Report piece from about the same time (1:05-5:00).

The guy that played the original break has never received any royalties.
A fair amount of Jungle is down to him. As is Straight Outta Compton. And I just heard the Amen on an advert.

I've heard this piece described as "proto-Jungle", in that it was heavily influenced by dub, reggae and electronic music.

How fair would you say this assessment is?

I will listen later, am using my mobile.
I suggest Mr Kirk's Nightmare, Original Nuttah and Brown Paper Bag. And Angels Fell.

The Winstons, right?
Right. I spent ten odd years seeking out the original breaks and samples from hip hop records. I could (and have) played extensive sets where you'd recognise the loops from other things.

Amazingly, I have a girlfriend.

yes The Winstons.
Your point being, you wizened old donkeychops?

I got them all as mp3s from an online magazine feature a few years back
"top 20 most sampled tunes" or something.

I find the parallel with your lengthy quest rather amusing. It's probably symbolic or something.
