Several possibilities
Nightrain by GnR - One of their most under-rated and never ever fails to get me going. The whole thing encapsulates the period excess and GnR for me.

All Along the Watchtower by Jimi H - apart from the spellbinding guitarwork it just swells perfectly into itself with stellar drumming. Not sure if this counts because it's a cover.

Bad Boy Boogie by AC/DC - I think it's DC's greatest ever work. Perfect hard rock with the best mix of blues tone they did.

Last but by no means least

Gimme Shelter by the Stones - this song makes me funny in all the right places. Phwoar. Especially love the bit where Merry Clayton's voice snaps. So much fucking passion. Woof.

re: Watchtower - course it counts.
Three solos, all completely different - a masterpiece.

The 'slide' solo was actually played using a jade ring, fact fans.
Same as on 'Dolly Dagger'.

Must be a chunky fucking ring!
I'm sure there's other songs I've forgotten. Planet Caravan for instance.

It was: pretty fucking foul if I'm honest.
I'll try and find a pic.

EDIT 'Hole in the Sky' and 'Supernaut' are other Sabs faves.

I think even Dylan fans concede that Jimi owns 'Watchtower'

Dylan fans, or 'fucking spastics' as they are also known

I knew you would say that - MR JONES!
BTW Godard's "Sympathy for the Devil " is on TV this weekend. (I Think it is on Film 4)

It's a fascinating insight
into how a tune evolves - mixed in with some of the most God-awful 'art' film making ever shot.

The Black Panther subtext is fucking pathetic.

(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 16:59, Reply)
Bent as fuck innit.

Should be enforced by law
I reckon.

Good choices
although I think the Stones' best tune is '2000 Light Years from Home'*

*because I am an acid casualty.

Any cover that shows a man who's so far up his own arse that he can lick his own tonsils
that he's not quite as good as he thinks he is, counts.

*applause*

I can't shake the feeling that it requires some more punctuation.
I am at a loss as to where to put it, though.
(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 16:46, Reply)
Hmmmm. Not sure.

(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 16:50, Reply)
It's the subject/message line
that's fooling you, reads fine to me!
(, Fri 11 Mar 2011, 16:51, Reply)
Well, I reckon you're safe with your choice, anyway.
