When I was thirteen or so my family and I were staying in a farmhouse close to the Welsh border. I was up in my bedroom listening to music and I got the strong feeling that I wasn't alone. Nothing else was in the room, so far as I can see, but I started feeling progressivly more and more disconcerted. I won't say I saw a ghost, as that isn't strictly accurate. I had the strong impression that something was in the room with me. This was in the middle of a summer's day, so it wasn't sleep apnoeia or any of the other usual sleep-related explanations.
After that, I wouldn't sleep in that room any more. A couple of days later, I found out that my parents had also felt that something was wrong in the house. Nothing they could specifically put their finger on, they didn't see anything either but my stepdad felt sufficiently threatened that he would leave their bedroom light on at night.
It got that bad that my parents cut the holiday short. The visitor's book was full of people commenting on the ghost in the house.

I dont' actually believe in ghosts. Logically, I find them highly improbable. However, this did happen.

If it weren't such a potentially devastating loss to the gene pool, I might consider re-thinking my life style.

if you go wandering around Hampstead Heath in the middle of the night you get a horrifying feeling that you're not alone, and you can hear all this tortured moaning coming from the bushes. And even in daylight you can see little puddles of ecotplasm everywhere.
It's eerie to say the least.
