nope, we have to come up with out own definiting of "living" in regards to the evidence and laws in our Biology textbook.
it's a very open kinda essay. Not enjoying it - it's so vague it has the feel of being very hit/miss.

it surely does sound vague...
I guess that it is deliberately so though. To make you think and argue your case. It is difficult to come to any conclusion that viruses etc are not alive, but how you prove they *are* alive is beyondme. There again, I am not a biomed under grad.

When I did biology
there were seven things that counted towards being counted as alive - things like reproduction, defecation, respiration... ermmm... etc.

Mind you, that was a while back.
