You could apply for the role of pit manager

Not currently
My boss is trying to put the wind up me, saying my position here isn't too strong, despite the fact I've had no disciplinaries for 1 1/2 years, and the only reason I seem to be without work is because I'm working my arse off to show that I am fucking good at my job.

As a result, I'm looking at jobs in the area, but currently there are none.

You have to look as if you were working your arse off
without doing it, so that you have plenty of work to do.

The problem is that once I crack through my usual work, there isn't a huge amount else for me to do, that doesn't look like I'm simply 'looking busy', if you get what I mean?

What don you actually do?
Aside from whippet breeding, pigeon fancying and ferret worrying?

My main job is data manipulation and checking of processed data.

Sounds fun...

Why do you think I'm on here so often?
My job itself isn't fun, but my colleagues are a good laugh

Can you be more specific?
Because that description is incredibly vague, you could just be doing a Sudoku.

Data is supplied in a variety of different formats to us, it's mine and my bosses responsibility to make it useful for us
The machines we have require certain formats to be useful. If he creates the data, I check it, and vice versa.

I'm also responsible for creating setups for different mailing jobs, shit like that
