Gonz, I don't wish to be a terrible douche
but it was immediately obvious to me when I bought my ice cream maker that the bowl would need to be frozen before use. Only the really expensive, massive ice cream makers have a built in capacity to freeze, and again, it's obvious by looking which ones those are. Perhaps they hid this fact in your instruction manual, but it was really quite clear in mine.

Sorry.

It is worth it though when you do finally get it working.

That seems a bit harsh berk
Can't you see just how upset Gonz is?

I am sure Gonz knows that I love him really
but it really is quite obvious that the bowl needs to be pre-frozen. Sorry...

This is our first fight, probably the most important one, the make up sex afterwards will be AMAZING.
I just have to remember to wait 24 hours first.

Gonz's Instructions on how to use an ice cream maker.
- Put bowl in freezer for 24 hours
- make up your mix of whatever you want to put in there
- take bowl out of freezer
- put spinny thing into the lid
- put lid on bowl
- turn the device on
- pour in spinny gunk
- After 40 minutes you've got ice cream, please check every 15 minutes to see if it has turned to the consitancy you want.

..... they skipped out that first one and put it somewhere totally different. I put it in the freezer for 3 hours, checked and thought "That's not cold enough" then after the 4th hour I thought "Still not cold enough" then on the 5th I checked it and thought "There is no difference, so it must be ready".

They plonked the 24 hour bit in the "Before first use" section, rather than the "how to use" one, how was I supposed to know 24? why not 12? why not 48?

Ahhh.
yeah, you have to make sure it's really, really frozen otherwise all you end up with is cold goop. Which is very disappointing.

Now here is another thing that I was thinking.
In north cyprus, they make 'turkish ice cream', which I believe has mollasis or glucose. When you have a cone, if you close your lips around the tip and pull, it'll stretch almost like a jelly based sweet. They're an unusual but very pleasent texture, normally using flavours such as Rose or tropical fruits. I was thinking of recreating this, and even maybe perhaps seeing what happens if you put a mixed jelly in there; maybe elderflower ?
(, Sun 24 Apr 2011, 18:59, Reply)
I didn't encounter that when I went to Turkey
but I'm sure there'll be a recipe online somewhere, and elderflower is nice. So yeah, why not?

After a quick google, I found this...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dondurma ... I really like elderflower cordial with a bit of sparkling water, maybe I could do pear and elderflower? I think they did that on Masterchef once, only with jelly.

I also really really love the "Fizzy Slush Puppy"s you can get at the pictures these days, if I could recreate that at home, that would be win too.
