Hmm, good question.
Whilst the best to my taste might well be a female jazz or blues singer, my actual favourite is probably Sandy Denny, with Janis Joplin at number two.

My mother likes Joan Baez.
She is fucking TERRIBLE. Like a female Bob fucking Dylan - awful in every way. And you 'wouldn't' either so she has literally nothing going for her.
