Probably where my grandmother grew up in Germanylots of happy childhood memories of staying at my great-aunt's house. Failing that, probably Florence.

I went at the end of Julyand it wasn't as busy as I was expecting, to be honest. Probably because it was so hot that anyone with any sense was inside cooling off under the air-con or in the country doing fuckall.

i went mid May and it was OKthen again a couple of weeks later when the tourist season had started. It was a bit hot and crowded for me. There again, I'm not designed for either cities or extreme heat

Florence is amazing, I went to my all time favorite restaurant there.5 courses plenty of wine and three hours for about £30 each.

Flying in to Dubrovniktravelling up to Split and possibly Plitvice and flying home from there. The weather forecast is pants though, I am most upset.

If you're flying home from Plitvice I suggest definitely go there and not just have in as a possibility on your travel itinerary.

I was in Istria last yearand it was stunning. I did day trips to Venice by catamaran, and Lake Bled in Slovenia by bus.
