But I wanted them Jeff
they were so pretty.

There has always been an unpleasant politics-y thing going on at work; it flared up over the last few days, as I was basically accused of lying and not doing my job, despite being able to prove without doubt that I'd done something that I said I'd done. Unpleasant politics then dictated I should have an uncomfortable few days with one member of staff bitching off about me behind my back.
Plus, searching for jobs really fucking sucks balls.

Well don't just put up with it and accept that people might hold that view of your work.
Make sure everyone knows that you've done what you said you were going to do. If the department is closing and your colleagues are going to be in a similar position to yourself, now isn't a good time to have this bit of doubt hanging over the quality of your work.

Make 'em listen berk. MAKE. 'EM. LISTEN.

And, if it'll make you feel better, why not post a link to the pretty shoes. Even if they are fuck-ugly, I'll post a comment approving of your selection.

Oh, everyone who matters knows I'm right
it's just being accused of it in the first place really hacks me off.

pair one (they look better with the cuffs turned down)

pair two

You're right.
I view the first pair with the sleeves of my shirt rolled up and thought, 'Nah, they aren't that special' - but then I looked at them again with my sleeves rolled down and thought 'Wow! Don't they look nice!'

You're not helping.

I prefer the first pair but then I'm a bit of a boot fan anyway.

ditto

Sorry berk.
If I'm being honest though, I preferred the second pair.

See, they both have their pros and cons
the first pair are very pretty but I don't know what I'd wear them with, and the second pair are also very pretty but I don't know how long I could walk in them before they start hurting my feet; probably not very long at all.

So on reflection, the bar of chocolate was best purchase you could have made.
Why not rustle up some ice-cream as well.

I got friends who are into it in a huge way.
