I don't have one because I can't afford it.
They're overrated anyway.

They mostly are
Unfortunately, they tend to be necessary for any kind of social activity.

the older I get the more I just want to be left alone
I like hanging out with people and doing stuff occasionally, but mostly I think people are shit, and I'd like to have an underground lair for my dog and myself.

When I was was a teenager I was out every night.
This may have been because I could not smoke hashish at home, though...

same here
without the hashish bit

I think I was out so much and so often for so long that I just do not want to be around people.
Or maybe it's like I said before, they're shit and dull. I have to get blind drunk to deal with the monotony.

I have never been able to understand why people's idea of a 'good pub/bar'
is one where you cannot get a seat and it takes an eternity to get a drink. I went to a bar on a static boat on the Thames recently. It was fucking heaving - literally hundreds and hundreds of people all shouting etc. It took me half an hour to get a pint and I'd drunk it before I got back to where people I knew were so I had to go back again. That is not 'a good bar', it is a shit one.

I think it's for people who want casual sex or to appear popular.

This, in spades. Pubs are supposed to be relaxing, not causes of stress and high blood pressure.
In related news, my work local near St. Paul's has just got Tim Taylord's Landlord on as a permanent fixture. I proclaim this to be A JOLLY GOOD THING.

I will extend this further
I don't understand why people want to move from home to the pub in some situations when:
A) they'd be with the same people they already are with,
B) there is plenty of beer that has already been paid for at the current location; and
C) you can't smoke in the pub

THIS
almost all of my evenings out are at someone's house these days - if we do eat it's either a takeout or we go back after the meal.

Bars are shit. Pubs are alright, but still not as convenient as my front room.

I should really strikethrough the second "o" and the "on" in monotony
but I shall respect the embargo.
