I think the US networks go for a balance between budget and viewing figures.Something like Flashforward (just realised my 'AICM' post doesn't work) would have to be pulling in 'Lost' level viewing figures in the US to survive into another series. I'm not sure how much weight they give to overseas viewing figures, the only show I can think of that has survived with them was 'Baywatch'
