but that sun tan thing is pretty stupid. He is saying that he thought he'd be able to watch his arms go brown and then know to get out of the sun before they went red and burned.

well, yes, this is true, most of us had learned this by trial and error by then
but me seems to have the brains to realise that is he doesn't rise to it he gets less stick, which is more than many on here have.
