I'm surprised Murdoch didn't sell.
Without 'News International' I'm sure the advertisers would have flocked back.

It was a loss maker.
It wouldn't have sold for much.

I'm amazed it was a loss maker.
I thought it was the biggest selling newspaper in the UK.

Gotta think outside the uk... It's the only British tabloid you can get in north Cyprus, lots of expats throughout the world...
... And although none of them would choose it in the uk, they get a taste of home over there.

It probably is
because it's a sunday, so it sells more than dailies, there isn't a sunday sun (because that's what the NotW is effectively), which is the best selling daily, and I suspect that the sundays have more of a market amongst expats as well.

and because I think we're quite unique as a culture (well, maybe translates to Europe too)
in having such a high proportion of newspaper readers.

I don't think the Sun et al count as newspapers

(, Thu 7 Jul 2011, 17:22, Reply)
technically, I'm afraid they do.
Then again, Rebekah Wade apparently counts as human, so who knows?
