We could argue that both are sharp rather than sweet
But in all honesty it still holds true. Sweet things do not go with savory.
cf. Gammon and pineapple, sweet and sour pork, pickle with ANYTHING.

Ooh our local theatre bistro (RIP World-famous Everyman Bistro TM) did a lovely chilli jam.
And I love chutneys, which are sweet and savoury mixed too.

I have some excellent caramelised red onion chutney at the moment
Also some hot as fuck mango chutney.
