Phidias kept to the rules of the classical period
Tate Modern is full of 20th century art which, if properly examined proves to be mostly rather excellent.
It is possible to like or at the very least, appreciate both periods.

The Tate Modern was great when I went with Noel in January.
Loved it.

Really?
A video of some twat bollock naked slapping himself in the face represents the best that the 21st century can offer...

that and N-dubz, cruel world indeed

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:21, Reply)
No. That was the best that performance art of the 70s could offer
Apart from the blokes pissing in each other's mouths.

Also Phidias didn't keep to the rules, he bust them a new arsehole

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:23, Reply)
Okay, strictly speaking, Phidias made a new set of rules
as he shifted Greek art from the archaic period which was stylised and more concerned with religion and ritual to the high classical period which, while stylised, is more realistic. Still a set of very strict rules though - no ugly people, for example.
And all the blokes were busting arseholes then. That was their culture.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:26, Reply)
Nah that was frowned upon, leg jizzing was their thing
At least they always had plenty of fat chicks as well

Question- how do you know all this?
More importantly, what prompted you to find out?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:45, Reply)
Yeah. The dirty bastard and his interest in things.
Why can't he just play computer games and eat burgers like a normal person?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:47, Reply)
The sexual mores of Ancient Greece?
A pretty niche interest, but if it floats his trireme, good for him.
