The new one came out on tuesday
although I had something similar with the Wheel of Time books when the most recent one came out - four bastarding months it took me to re-read the first 11, because I had no idea what was going on.

Wheel of Time?
nonono. The first three were excellent, 4-6 good, 7-10 tailed off significantly, but then the guy died and the new author hired to finish the series moves at a much faster pace and the newer ones are much, much better.

Are you thinking of the Shannara books? 'Cause they were pants in my opinion.
