BORED BORED BORED BORED BORED
I might peel my face off with boredom soon. My life has become a void and i am BORED.

Entertain me, guys!

alt: What do you do when you're bored?

don't make me sympathy-reply
myself in this state - wahhhhh!

Post on b3ta
I'm capable of better than this.

Maybe the fact that I'm 3/4 ratted at 19.24 doesn't help.

I was doing real things with real people last night though, if that's any amelioration.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:24, Reply)
ooh, booxe, that's an idea
I've not seen real people (other than in shops/gym/art gallery) since Tuesday. I'm losing my mind
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:26, Reply)
That's not good
I have people around - my Sister, who is my best mate, lives a mile away so I'm not really on my own.

I have a few mates around too.

Are you that isolated?
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:32, Reply)
I'm just not good at dealing with holidays
I don't talk to people for a little while, then I convince myself that everyone hates me, despite the fact I could call a few people and ask what they're up to. I'm being stupid.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:35, Reply)
I come on here
but since it's also dead I'm going to have to read a book or something.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:31, Reply)

what you reading?
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:35, Reply)
Err book 3 part 2 of the Game of Thrones series
'A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold'.

I heart George R R Martin.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:54, Reply)
i read them 10 years ago
(then 4 or 5 when the one before last came out). I really want to reread them, but I've only got Storm of Swords...Then there's the problem that people will think I'm only reading them because of the series. Man, I'm such a book snob
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 19:58, Reply)
Who gives a shit what people think?
re-read them, they're great books.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 20:03, Reply)
Yeah
I can't remember enough about them and the last one just came out after years and years of waiting. Perhaps that's the thing I'll go tomorrow
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 20:05, Reply)
The new one came out on tuesday
although I had something similar with the Wheel of Time books when the most recent one came out - four bastarding months it took me to re-read the first 11, because I had no idea what was going on.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 20:09, Reply)
yeah, but weren't they shit?
(not that I read them, I just borrowed other peoples' opinions)
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 20:13, Reply)
Wheel of Time?
nonono. The first three were excellent, 4-6 good, 7-10 tailed off significantly, but then the guy died and the new author hired to finish the series moves at a much faster pace and the newer ones are much, much better.

Are you thinking of the Shannara books? 'Cause they were pants in my opinion.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 20:16, Reply)
I didn't read those either

I am getting a man-gut.
Thing is, I don't eat that much crap. The odd takeout aside, I'm good for my 5 a day.

I've not drunk that much either of late, which is how I've managed to get squiffy on less ale than usual of late.

I think the answer might lie in drinking vodka and slimline tonic.

It's a rather good book by Mervyn Peake (admittedly it is quite hard going) and a rather better BBC adaptation some 10ish years ago which launched the career of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, better known as King Henry VIII in The Tudors.

Had an interview for a job I don't actually want
it went ok, but I doubt I've got the job, and I'm not overly fussed by it. Have applied for several things I like the look of very much and should hopefully hear back soon. I'm feeling less doom-and-gloomy about it most of the time, but it comes in phases if you know what I mean.

What job were you interviewed for, and would it mean relocating?

Another technician job, in South London
I had thought it'd be ok to commute, but it took over an hour to get from Marylebone to the institute and that was in the middle of the day - imagine how much worse it'd be in rush hour. So I'd have to move to south London, and I just don't fancy it tbh. Some of the institutes in north London would be ok, that are only a few tube stops or walkable from Marylebone, and I could live in Leamington adn commute in...it'd be hard, but if it's all I'm offered I'll take it. But I'd rather stay in the area, there's good stuff coming up at Oxford, and one job in Warwick and another in Birmingham. Fingers crossed...

Well if you do have to change to a job you'd rather not do, just remember that you've not signed up for life

No, you sign a contract for however long the funding is for
it's not the done thing to leave midway through as it screws up funding and continuity in the lab, and it would look very bad on my CV.

I'm only really familiar with commercial sectors. Consider my 'helpful' comment retracted.
What locations, if you had to move, would you consider?
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:08, Reply)
If location/TC wasn't an issue
then I'd move anywhere, really. Manchester, Bristol, Cambridge and London particularly.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:11, Reply)
I'm guessing you couldn't move and for TC to follow you down later?
I'd imagine there are more Tennis opportunities in London.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:12, Reply)
No, it was mentioned
and I think he'd like to move to London for a few years...but he's just bought a flat here, and a lot of what he does is self-employed, and if he were to move he'd have to build all of that up again. So unless he were headhunted for a particular club, a move isn't really financially feasible.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:13, Reply)
I'm sure you're both considering all of the best options
I hope you get the right role in the right location and everything if good.

When is your last day in your current role likely to be?
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:21, Reply)
30th September, as it currently stands
which is why I might have issues with the pierbash - it's not really the done thing to take ones last day off as annual leave, is it?
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:22, Reply)
But you can phone in sick!

Do you think a soried affair might make things better?
I saw on Jermy Kyle this girl who had an affair with a man, and she seemed quite happy except the bit about the baby not being hers.

You're so funny, Gonz. Silly boy.

It's very sweet of you to offer to let me use you like that, Gonz
I'll bear it in mind.

I remember seeing some art there or something

(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 21:29, Reply)
or perhaps it was just me imagining the art
come to think of it, I think a friend was scouting it out for exhibition potential
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 21:30, Reply)
Any further news of your exhibition, or indeed, amazon trip?

(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 21:40, Reply)
nah
the exhibition is down to me to organise and I've still not contacted the place *adds to task list*. The Amazon thing I might not hear about for a while. At some point I should get a letter, then it's all about replying as soon as I can and hoping I get in first.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 21:45, Reply)
Given that it took me to remined you that the special joining offer at the gym was about to expire.
I fully expect you to miss the amazon trip.

I remember very little about the series
I think the only reason it's on itunes is I downloaded it to make a larp version of the song (since one guy was called Estaban)

I remember there was this really sad episode
where they could actually see the real world and were nearly home, but then had to return to the D&D realm. I can't remember why they couldn't get back but that unicorn probably had something to do with it.
(, Sat 16 Jul 2011, 22:12, Reply)
Yeah, I think Bobby didn't want to leave it behind
lamer.

The shameful thing is
that's pretty interesting stuff. But the rest, no, dull. I want to know why all profiles are about how people like to travel and watch films. Instant boredom
