It's a rather good book by Mervyn Peake (admittedly it is quite hard going) and a rather better BBC adaptation some 10ish years ago which launched the career of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, better known as King Henry VIII in The Tudors.

the mini series was cool
but the book was still better (although people always say that). Could have done with being in 5 parts rather than 4, I reckon
