What about 1 million?

(, Mon 18 Jul 2011, 14:53, 1 reply, 15 years ago)
Sure, it'll give me some paid time off to look for another job
Might be able to retire on it if you're careful.

You'd have to be very careful at current interest rates.
Even at 5% it's only about £30k a year in interest.
(, Mon 18 Jul 2011, 14:56, Reply)
Most hedge funds will double that rate.

(, Mon 18 Jul 2011, 14:57, Reply)
most hedge funds can be outperformed by a chimp picking at random.

I just mean that having a million isn't necessarily the retirement fund it used to be.

It wouldn't allow you to stop working
but it would make you're life pretty damned cushty compared to most people.

Obviously I mean most people that you or I know, not most people that swipey knows.

With a million, I'd probably just use it to supplement my income
rather than replace it.
(, Mon 18 Jul 2011, 15:06, Reply)
Indeed
Still it'd be great for setting yourself up with a house or two, and you can make money from renting the second.
(, Mon 18 Jul 2011, 14:57, Reply)
Even without any interest
you could happily take 30K a year from that and it would last you another 30 years.
