and, including water and electricity, buying and cooking a ham yourself is around half the price than buying cooked one in the supermarket. And that's for the very cheap watery one.
At the pace I eat ham we're going to have to start raising our own pigs.

One thing I'm going to do soon is buy a chicken, have a roast, then use any scraps to make a stir fry, before using the carcass to make a stock, from which I'll make a risotto, or something. Hopefully, should make a load of meals for rather cheap.

add some bones to the stock (very cheap, if not free, from your butcher) and the it'll be much nicer.
We're going to make pea and ham soup from the stock of cooking the ham.

I'm also going to be buying a couple of things in the next few months to make cooking more interesting - A griddle, and a blender.

Now, there is a great new thing that might look a bit too much, but it's great. It's a kind of roasting pan, but made with silicone, so you can cook stuff in the oven really easy, and it never gets dry or burnt. It has a little tray with holes on it, so you put all the spices and oils and stuff under it, then your chicken or fish or watever on top, cover and cook. Brilliant. And it can go straight to the dishwasher.
