That's the thing I reckon, they're tools, if they can do their job, then that's what they're there for.Someone who switches on and off a light switch, maybe even a dimmer switch, and can change the lightbulb.... that is all they'll generally need to know, and that's fine, you don't need to know how to rewire the room, you call a man in for that.
