I don't really like doing it but it's good when you've got a pair of jeans that aren't as tapered as you'd like them to be.

The Google image examples do look shit, I agree.
I do it my own way, when the turn up is huge it looks utter shit. I get mine as small/narrow/slim as I possibly can so you barely notice. I do it when the hem of the jeans are too wide naturally.
