in my experience good teachers are few and far between
the ability to enthuse grumpy teenagers about a chamical reaction/the movement of tectonic plates/ the writings of Dickens is a huge skill and one very few teachers possess. Team this with an education system designed to allow children to pass exams, not to revel in the enjoyment of learning and you have an uninspiring system that doesn't work for enough children.
