It was always going to be OTT, and utterly ridiculous, so for people to say it's shit because of that missed the point, IMHO.

Also, I've seen the new POTC film, the only defence I can give is that it wasn't as shit as I expected it to be. I was expecting a complete train wreck, but Captain Jack (as a character), was enough to rescue it.

yes, to say it's shit because it's OTT and ridiculous is not much of an argument. RED is both OTT and ridiculous. The differnce, to me at least, is that RED does it with style and humour and some pretty solid acting weight behind it. The Expendables lacks all those things.

So, to conclude, I buy your argument,but disagree with your conclusion on the film. So ner.

Very true, on all counts
For me, The Expendables was like AvP, simply a film to switch your brain off, and enjoy.

RED was excellent though, John Malkovich especially. Have you ever seen Burn After Reading?

I really enjoyed it, Brad Pitt in one of his best roles, definitely.
I also watched Attack The Block the other night, once you can get past their faux Jamaican patois, it's definitely enjoyable.

I am sure that I heard Joe Cornish say in interview that it's deliberately accurate and that he knows that it may be alienating but he refused to soften it.
