I tried to transfer the balance of my cedit card last week, but was rejected annoyingly
What have you been rejected for?

ALT: Owls, sweet fluffy and wise woodland creatures or silent assasins of the night?
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 10:49, 102 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
Credit cards.
Even though I have a spotless credit rating, evidently someone who used to have my addrses does not, or something. Not really bothered because I only wanted one for emergencies and such.

wow this thread doesn't have any chance of becoming a moan fest.

Go ahead
I dont have a favourite colour, or a dragonfly, or a buttercup
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:07, Reply)
My favourite colour is the colour of burning dragonflies and buttercups.

How's you this rainy morning mate?
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:00, Reply)
Not great tbh fella, made a minor cock up last week which has upset a client
And I'm just pissed off at myself, because my work has been excellent for quite a while, so something this simple going wrong is quite aggravating.

Yourself?
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:02, Reply)
Yeah, good.
Just about to watch "The Expendables", not seen as yet, apparently it's utter shite, but contains good explosions, and weaponry.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:04, Reply)
It's absolutely ridiculous
And as long as you are aware of that, you'll likely enjoy it.

Anyone complaining it was shit appeared to misunderstand that concept in the first place.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:05, Reply)
Crappy Hollywood movies,
containing violence, bad puns, car chases and shooting are a guilty pleasure.

Good book, but anything containing Jason Statham is automatically crap.

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:26, Reply)
Good man

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:13, Reply)
I think that's a bit harsh
It is shit and I fully understand the concept. And it's a shit concept.

I don't buy the argument that it's OK to be shit if it's a summer blockbuster. If people were a bit more discerning and didn't accept that argument, we'd get more Inceptions and less Pirates of The Carribean and Transformers sequels.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:14, Reply)
No, I mean anyone who expected it to be anything but a "Crash Boom Bang" sort of film was mistaken
It was always going to be OTT, and utterly ridiculous, so for people to say it's shit because of that missed the point, IMHO.

Also, I've seen the new POTC film, the only defence I can give is that it wasn't as shit as I expected it to be. I was expecting a complete train wreck, but Captain Jack (as a character), was enough to rescue it.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:16, Reply)
Ah, OK.
yes, to say it's shit because it's OTT and ridiculous is not much of an argument. RED is both OTT and ridiculous. The differnce, to me at least, is that RED does it with style and humour and some pretty solid acting weight behind it. The Expendables lacks all those things.

So, to conclude, I buy your argument, but disagree with your conclusion on the film. So ner.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:21, Reply)
Very true, on all counts
For me, The Expendables was like AvP, simply a film to switch your brain off, and enjoy.

RED was excellent though, John Malkovich especially. Have you ever seen Burn After Reading?
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:26, Reply)
I like switching my brain off.

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:26, Reply)
I tend not to use psychadelic drugs to do it though
Or would they do quite the opposite?
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:37, Reply)
Quite the opposite.

I haven't actually.
I keep intending to, but I haven't got round to it yet.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:39, Reply)
I really enjoyed it, Brad Pitt in one of his best roles, definitely.
I also watched Attack The Block the other night, once you can get past their faux Jamaican patois, it's definitely enjoyable.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:41, Reply)
I think one of his best roles was Kalifornia.

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:44, Reply)
I've never even heard of it, let alone seen it.

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:45, Reply)
Serial Killer film with...
oh, bugger, I wanted to say Juliette Lewis, but that was Natural Born Killers.

i think it may be David Duchovny and...actually, i still want to say Juliette Lewis. Before your time too, this one is definitely 90's and early 90's at that...
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:48, Reply)
Yeah, it is her.

(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:50, Reply)
Natural Born Killers is an excellent film
The interview at the end with RDJ, where he says 'Shit, man... I'm a natural born killer.' is just brilliant.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:50, Reply)
Atatck The Block I really enjoyed
but yes, the way they spoke was difficult for me to translate from my late 30's out of touch world.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:46, Reply)
I'm only in my early 20s, and I still found it hard to understand
And also extremely fucking annoying.

In fairness,
it was meant to be tongue in cheek.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:54, Reply)
Aye, I understand that, and it is very effective
But also extremely annoying.
(, Tue 20 Sep 2011, 11:54, Reply)
I don't believe that's the case
I am sure that I heard Joe Cornish say in interview that it's deliberately accurate and that he knows that it may be alienating but he refused to soften it.

Owls are evil, blood thirsty carnivorous bastards
and that makes them pretty great. I spent a thoroughly enjoyable two hours taking photos of them at the Muncaster Castle Owl Trust Centre a couple of months ago.

I've never seen so many dead mice and dead chicks in one place before either.

Due to only being in my current address for a couple of months. Not the end of the world as I still have a debit card but it does mean I actually have to have the money I'm attempting to spend.

I got turned down for as job as an advisor to Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert site.
Jusy because I was an hour late because I had to hitch to the interview and I'd run out of credit so couldn't call.
