it used to be
if you remember your enid blyton, they would have dinner in the middle of the day, then tea at 5ish, then supper. one of which sticks in my mind to this day because it was sliced bananas covered with sugar and cream. how were her characters not 178 stone, eating that before bed?!

but these days i think it just means a later evening meal to most people.

Supper for us as children
would be milk or tea, and fruit or whatever before bed. But we called the evening meal dinner, rather than tea.
